This month Anne-Marie Busch, K2 Marketing Manager, interviews Dave Jackson, new North West Regional Sales Manager at K2 Conservatories.
AMB: How long have you been working in the industry?
DJ: 10 years; it seems like a fair amount of time but it has gone by very quickly, and in fairness occasionally I still feel like a newcomer. People in this industry tend to be in it “for life” so I’ll need a few more years before being “an old hand”.
AMB: Can you tell us about your previous roles?
DJ: it is no secret. I started with Quantal and then moved on to Synseal for 5 years, which is where most people will know me from.
AMB: You are replacing Dilip Choudry, who had been at K2 for 3 1/2 years. Do you feel you have big shoes to step into?
DJ: Most certainly. I spent many years chasing after K2 business / accounts and he was certainly doing something right because the K2 customers are very loyal ones.
AMB: Didn’t that concern you when you considered joining us?
DJ: Not really. I guess there could have been an element of personal affinity that could have got in the way but I like to think that I am a people person. If anything, having spent a lot of time talking to the K2 customers, I know them well already.
AMB: what attracted you to K2 Conservatories?
DJ: I wanted to get my hand on all your customers (laughing)! As they say, “if you can’t beat them, join them”. On a serious note I was looking forward to working with a roof system that I believe is one of the best in the industry. It is extremely well engineered, offers a solid and stable structure, which will therefore be longer lasting, giving the K2 fabricator and installer a much better value-for-money solution. In the long run K2 customers will save money from not having to go back to jobs and carry out repairs and win more business from building on their reputation for providing a good product.
AMB: It is fantastic to hear you being so enthusiastic. There are still too many doom and gloom stories out there about how the industry is declining.
DJ: It isn’t just about the industry as a whole; K2 really does have a great product, and as a true conservatory roof specialist we have an advantage over businesses that have to split their efforts with other products such as windows. This will give us the winning edge.
AMB: it seems to me as though there is a lot more to be said about our roof system. I will be telling our readers to look out for more interesting facts, to be out soon.
Thanks for your time Dave. But before you go will you give away a little bit more about yourself… like… who is your favourite football team?
DJ: well… ok…. Manchester United. May be a little cliché, but I am from Manchester (Bury to be precise), so it had to be red or blue, and I do think red is more my colour. Besides I like being on the winning side! (Ah…. a true sales man speaking…)
