Many customers ask about the benefits of using glass for their conservatory roof...

Well, there are many benefits, but the first question you should ask your customers is which way their conservatory is going to be facing (North, South, East, West) as typically this will help identify which glass product will be most suitable.

OK so if my customer says that their conservatory is South facing?

A south facing conservatory will need maximum protection from the sun for optimum performance. Choose Celsius Plus, as it reflects an impressive 74% of the heat from the sun (solar energy) and thanks to its blue tint reduces glare by 40%. In addition, and a big plus for homeowners, it has an 88% UV protection factor against fading.

An alternative to Celsius Plus is Celsius (Blue), which still offers impressive results including 72% heat reflection.

Are there other options available to control the temperature?

Yes, of course. Ventilation will also help you manage heat build up. K2 offers a range of roof vents, all specified to very high standards and designed to prevent any leakage. With the option to have them fitted with rain sensors, and combined with Celsius glass, you’ll be able to offer your customers a solution that will satisfy all their needs.

And what about North facing conservatories?

When it comes to North facing conservatories, your main priority will be to offer a finely balanced solution with heat reflection and deflection, whilst also maximising on light transmission.

Celsius Clear ticks all the right boxes with a combination of 62% light transmission and 1.2 U value.

So basically glass is good for temperature control?

Yes but it isn’t just about temperature control. Firstly glass will give the conservatory a unique pristine appearance which will enhance any property. Secondly glass also ensures that the conservatory benefits from an ambient temperature all year round.

Celsius glass also offers improved sound insulation, particularly under rainfall, when compared to polycarbonate.

Easy Clean or Self Clean?

Easy Clean all the way as it simply does what it says on the bottle… it makes the glass much easier to clean, with highly reduced maintenance for the consumer. Easy Clean also works effectively on organic and inorganic dirt and is silicone friendly on site (i.e. silicone is easily removed and does not damage the Easy Clean product).

Easy Clean comes with a 10 year warranty.

Can I do a straight replacement from polycarbonate to glass roof?

It depends on the size of the roof that is to be replaced. Obviously glass weighs considerably more than polycarbonate so we would always recommend that the roof is checked to ensure it is fit for a glass upgrade.

What about the side frames? What would the best glass option be?

If the customer is specifying high performance glass for their roof it really does make perfect sense to reflect this performance (no pun intended) in the side frames. Celsius Clear is the ideal side frame product, and if combined with Celsius Plus for the roof will give the ultimate glazing solution.

So for the ultimate blue sky, come rain or shine, choose Celsius.
