Structural Bi-folding openings
Bi-folding doors have become an increasingly popular option for homes and now also conservatories and glazed extensions. Unlike a house built with lintels over the opening, companies must consider the doors from the conservatory structure, says K2 Architectural Systems’ Tim Burton.
For the most part, the weight of a roof over a full set of bi-folding doors is too much for the standard eaves beam to bear. With this in mind, K2 has developed a number of portal eaves beams to cater for various spans and loadings, so there’s a perfect solution for each individual job.
The portal eaves beams have been designed with a maximum deflection of 6mm under full loading, to ensure that the doors are able to fold and slide perfectly whatever the conditions. There’s also a series of structural legs and internal eaves covers to provide a neat finish between window frame, conservatory roof and bi-folding door.
K2’s specialist architectural division is able to offer technical support and assistance for conservatory projects with bi-folding doors and is also able to process and deliver orders for portal eaves beams nationwide, within 7-10 days of order.
This new development is part of a larger portfolio of solutions for large scale conservatory applications for architects, specifiers, fabricators and installers.
